Press & public welcome

Lytham Town Council will gather for its Annual Meeting on the evening of Wednesday 6 May — a milestone occasion that marks the start of a new municipal year and brings together councillors, officers, and the community to shape how the town is governed.

The meeting begins at 6:30pm at the Lytham Institute on Clifton Street, and members of the public are warmly encouraged to attend and have their say.

New leadership for the year ahead

The first order of business will be the election of a new Chair and Vice-Chair of the Council for 2026/27 — a requirement under the Local Government Act 1972. The outgoing Chair will preside over the nomination and vote before handing over to whoever is newly elected. Any councillor can be put forward, with nominations proposed and seconded on the night.

"The Annual Meeting is the moment the council formally constitutes itself for the year ahead — it's one of the most important evenings in the council's calendar."

Reflecting on year one

This is a particularly significant Annual Meeting: it marks the close of Lytham Town Council's very first year of operation. The Clerk and outgoing Chair will present a report reflecting on key achievements, challenges faced, and lessons learned since May 2025. A public summary of this review will be made available on the council's website following the meeting.

Your chance to speak

A public participation session is built into the agenda, giving residents the opportunity to raise matters relating to items on the agenda. Speakers are typically allowed up to three minutes each, with the session running for around 15 minutes in total. No formal decisions are taken during this open forum — it is purely an opportunity for the community's voice to be heard.

Governance and finances reviewed

The council will also work through its annual governance review — formally re-adopting key documents including its Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, and Code of Conduct for the new year. The Risk Register, Asset Register, insurance arrangements, and internal financial controls will all be examined and approved, ensuring the council remains properly accountable to the community it serves.

Development money for Lytham

One of the most locally significant items on the agenda concerns development funding held by Fylde Council earmarked for the regeneration of Lytham town and its wards. Councillors will discuss the issues around this funding and agree next steps — an item that could have a tangible impact on the future of the town centre.

Annual Town Meeting — save the date  - Date Change

Residents should also note that the Annual Town Meeting — a separate, public gathering of the local electorate rather than a council meeting — is now scheduled for Wednesday 27 May 2026. This is the community's dedicated forum and is required by law to be held each year. More details will be announced in due course. The date change is as a result of feedback provided at the most recent Council meeting

The full agenda is published on the council's website at www.lythamtowncouncil.gov.uk and on the council noticeboard. For enquiries, contact the Clerk at Clerk@lythamtowncouncil.gov.uk.
