Annual Town Meeting - Wednesday 27th May 2026

12th of May, 2026

This is your meeting — come and help shape Lytham's future

On Wednesday 27 May, Lytham holds its Annual Town Meeting — and it belongs to the residents, not the council. Here's everything you need to know about what it is, who it's for, and why it matters.

You might have seen the phrase "Annual Town Meeting" and wondered whether it's just another council committee gathering. It isn't — and that distinction matters.

The Annual Town Meeting is, in law, a meeting of the local electorate. It is not a meeting of Lytham Town Council. The council organises and facilitates it, but the meeting itself belongs to the people of Lytham. Councillors who attend do so as residents and electors, on exactly the same basis as anyone else in the room.

If you're on the electoral roll for Lytham, this is your meeting

The meeting is open to all registered electors in the Lytham East and Lytham West wards — in other words, anyone on the electoral roll for those two wards. If you live in Lytham and you're registered to vote here, you have the full right to attend, speak, and vote on any matters raised at the meeting.

Members of the public who aren't on the Lytham electoral roll are also very welcome to attend and hear the discussion — but under the rules governing these meetings, only registered electors may formally speak or vote.

You can check your registration at any time at gov.uk/register-to-vote — and if you're not yet registered, or need to update your details, it's well worth doing so ahead of future elections too.

We know that many people have a strong stake in Lytham without necessarily living in Lytham East or West — business owners, those who work in the town, members of local organisations. You are warmly welcome to come along and hear the conversation, and we hope you will. The more voices in the room, the better the picture we get of our community.

We are particularly keen to hear from those whose voices aren't always part of the conversation — whether that's because civic meetings can feel a little daunting, or simply because life gets in the way.

Every resident has an equal stake in Lytham's future, and if you've never attended a council meeting before or don't usually engage with local decision-making, this meeting is just as much for you as anyone else.

It's a genuinely relaxed and friendly occasion, and we'd love to see you there.

A chance to speak, question, and set the agenda

The Annual Town Meeting is required by law — specifically Schedule 12 of the Local Government Act 1972 — and must be held each year between March and June. Its purpose is simple: to give residents the opportunity to discuss matters affecting the town, question the council, and help shape priorities for the year ahead.

It's an informal but meaningful occasion. There's no set agenda of council business to work through — it's genuinely open to whatever electors want to raise. You can ask questions of the council, put forward suggestions, comment on local issues, and propose resolutions. Any resolution passed is persuasive — the council takes it seriously and considers it at future meetings.

What you can do at the meeting:

Ask questions of the council and community organisations · Raise issues that matter to you · Make suggestions for priorities in the coming year · Propose resolutions for the council to consider · Hear what the council and local groups have been up to during this last year

Come along

Wednesday 27 May — we'd love to see you there

The meeting will be chaired by the Town Clerk and the new Chair of the Council, Councillor Suzanne Bramall. It will be held at Lytham Institute on Clifton Street, starting at 6:30pm. Refreshments will be available and there's no need to book — just come along.

Please spread the word to neighbours, friends, and anyone else who cares about this town. The Annual Town Meeting works best when as many voices as possible are in the room.
