THIS EVENING - Annual Town Meeting — 6:30pm Wednesday 27 May 2026
27th of May, 2026
Tonight is the night — Lytham's Annual Town Meeting takes place this evening at 7:00pm at Lytham Institute, 27 Clifton Street. There is no need to book. Just come along.
This is not a council meeting. In law, the Annual Town Meeting belongs to the residents of Lytham — it is a meeting of the local electorate, held under Schedule 12 of the Local Government Act 1972. Any registered elector in the Lytham East or Lytham West wards has the full right to attend, speak, and vote. Councillors present do so as residents, on exactly the same footing as everyone else in the room.
On arrival, you will be asked to sign the attendance register. The Clerk will check names against the electoral roll — a straightforward legal requirement, since only registered electors may speak or vote. It ensures those rights are properly observed and recorded for everyone present.
What's on this evening
The Chair, Cllr Suzanne Bramall, will present a report on the council's first year, covering what has been achieved, the council's finances, and priorities for the year ahead. The Clerk will give a brief operational report. Representatives from Lytham Business Partnership are also invited to give short updates, and there will be a full opportunity for residents to ask questions and raise issues.
Two documents are available to support this evening's meeting — the agenda and the council's Year One Review, covering May 2025 to May 2026. The review is well worth a read: in its first twelve months the council passed 80 decisions and resolutions, held 15 Full Council meetings, launched its Community Grants Scheme, and delivered a Celebration of Volunteers event bringing together around 50 local organisations. You may have printed these documents at home or have them open on your device already. If not, QR codes displayed around the room will take you directly to both. These are displayed on printed cards rather than embedded in any online content, so you can be confident that any QR code you scan in this room tonight links to an official council document.
The Agenda can be found on our website here and is also attached
The End of Year Review document can be found in our news pages here
If you would prefer not to speak in public, don't let that stop you contributing.
There will be a number of question card boxes / lidded buckets around the room where you can write down your question or comment, add your name, and post it in — one of the organisers will then read it out to the meeting on your behalf.
NB: We ask that all contributions are attributed to the person submitting them: this keeps the meeting fair and transparent for everyone, and ensures that questions and comments carry the same weight as those made from the floor.
A note on questions for the council
If questions or points are raised tonight that would require a formal council response or decision, it is worth understanding how that works in practice. The Annual Town Meeting is not a council meeting, and the council as a body has not convened this evening. Councillors present are therefore not in a position to discuss or commit to any formal position on behalf of the council. Matters raised will be noted carefully by the Clerk and brought to the next Full Council meeting on 10 June 2026, where they can be properly considered and responded to. This is how the process is designed to work — it protects the integrity of any decision the council ultimately takes.
