Letter to Residents and Local Businesses from Lancashire Police - 2026 AIG Women’s Open 30/07 to 02/08/2026

22nd of June, 2026

Good morning all.

Here is an open letter from Sgt Robinson from the Fylde Neighbourhood Policing Team at Lancashire Police to everyone on Lytham about the Women's Open Golf Championship at teh end of July.

Dear Residents and Local Businesses,

The 2026 AIG Women’s Open will take place at Royal Lytham & St Annes from Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August 2026. With over 50,000 spectators expected across the four-day tournament, there will be a significant increase in activity throughout the area.

Neighbouring towns including Lytham, St Annes, Ansdell, and surrounding areas can expect increased footfall in town centres, shops, and hospitality venues, Higher than usual traffic levels, particularly during peak arrival and departure times, Greater demand on parking and public transport, and a busier evening and night-time economy, with more visitors attending bars, restaurants, and local events.

Advice for Local Businesses

This event presents a valuable opportunity to capitalise on increased visitor numbers. Businesses are encouraged to prepare for higher customer volumes; ensure staff levels match expected demand and be mindful of delivery schedules due to potential traffic disruption

To support the event and ensure public safety, Additional police patrols will be in place across the area and Officers will focus on maintaining public safety, assisting visitors, and managing any increased demand on services. A visible policing presence will help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

This internationally recognised sporting event will bring substantial benefits to the local economy. While there may be some short-term disruption, the overall impact is expected to be positive for the community.

We thank residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation and support in helping make this a successful event.

I would also like to encourage all residents and businesses to sign up to “Stay in the Know”, a community messaging service operating across Lancashire which we will be utilising throughout the week to share information with you our residents and businesses. www.stayintheknow.co.uk
