Local Government Reorganisation - Impact on Town and Parish Councils

Attached is a short flyer about how the decisions announced last week regarding the Local Government Reorganisation programme for Lancashire will effect local town and parish councils.
The first key point for Lytham residents and business owners is that the Town and Parish Councils are not altered in any way by the LGR proposals. So for us here in Lytham that level of local democracy and representation will remain unchanged.
In addition to other events, key dates for Lytham over the next few months will include:
- 16th December 2026 - A Festive Celebration at Lytham Institute with Councillors
- 17th March 2027 - The Annual Town Meeting 2027
The Town Council is also due to be open for election next year, and the timeline is shown below:
- Tuesday 30 March 2027 - The Notice of Election will be published officially kicking off the election period, this will also be when 'purdah' starts and nominations to stand for election / re-election open.
- Thursday 8 April at 4pm. Nominations close; and the notice of persons nominated will be posted shortly after that day.
NB: If there is a contested election - so more than 10 candidates have submitted nomination forms - then a Notice of Election will also be posted.
- Thursday 6th May 2027. Election Day.
- Monday 10th May 2027. Any outgoing councillors officially stepping down on Monday 10 May when any new councillors officially assume office.
- Wednesday 12th May 2027 - The Annual Council Meeting 2027. This meeting starts the Council's business or Municipal year. By law it has to be held either on the day that the Councillors take office, or within 14 days thereafter.
